Thursday, the 16th of April, 2010.

This day Nathalie F. together with two of her children, Timmen & Romy, have paid a long visit to the  't Swieneparredies .  This is a kind of Pigs Museum and Centre for additional learning needs in Nieuw-Scheemda (prov. of Groningen) in the upper North of the Netherlands.  It really is the most recommended place to visit if you love pigs of all breeds in all sorts of furs, sizes and personalities.

Our Opinion

PLEASE READ OUR OPINION ABOUT THE PHENOMENON "TEACUP PIGS en/of MICRO PIGS" !

With the current climate of media attention and ever growing popularity for pet pigs advertised as mini, micro, miniature and teacup pigs, we breeders have prepared this statement to clear up confusion and help educate prospective pig owners in their search for pet pigs.

Asylums and shelters for abandoned animals are regularly being contacted by people who have bought a 'tiny' pig, that has grown to an unexpected size.  There is no officially honored breed of pig called the mini, micro, miniature or teacup pig.  These words can conjure an incorrect image in the minds of those who are not familiar with the sizes of pig breeds.

Full grown height is not usually reached until the pig is at least two or 2 & ½ years of age.

Piglets are very tiny at birth and are still very tiny when weaned and this may be misleading to a novice pig keeper. We as a breeder, do not agree with keeping pigs as house pets. Pigs really need a garden/orchard to graze.  They are no cats neiter dogs one must accept.  Also be convinced that pigs should be kept in groups of two or more as they are a herd animal.  If not kept at least by two, one alone will wither due to loneliness.

If you are searching for a pet pig,  we shall always be happy to show you all our stock and answer all your questions. Do not assume that a pig photographed at just a few days old will remain small after two or three years.  When you start looking for breeders of small pigs,  then do not forget to request to see the parents of the piglets.

Use common sense, ask questions, ask for details of other pigs sold by the breeder in order that you may see the ‘final result’, and above all, consider the long term commitment and responsibility of owning pigs.
